South Africa’s Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association (WASPA) joins South Africa’s Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) for the first time as a partner in this year’s iWeek XV.
“South Africa’s Internet consumers primarily use their mobile handsets to access the web. This makes WASPA’s participation as an official partner in iWeek XV particularly relevant,” says WASPA Chair, Casper de Villiers.
Other partners in the country’s premier ICT industry gathering taking place in Johannesburg from 19 to 23 September include the Wireless Access Providers’ Association (WAPA), the ZA Central Registry (ZACR), the ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA), INX-ZA and the South African chapters of the Internet Society.
WASPA’s involvement this year is especially welcome as the self-regulating body for the country’s mobile content and applications industry brings a full day of valuable content focused on the burgeoning mobile sector.
On Tuesday 20 September, WASPA sessions will cover mobile content and the South African mobile numbering plan. There is also a planned half-day workshop to provide a detailed overview of the local regulatory framework. Finally, ICASA’s role as the industry regulator will be examined, followed by a high-level view of the legislation and regulations that shape the greater mobile industry.
On the traditional web front, two full days of specialised technical content are planned for Tuesday, 20 and Wednesday 21 September. Network engineers and technical staff can attend presentations and workshops on routing registries, IRR usage, network automation, network visualisation and end-to-end IPv6.  The FTTH-C will be providing a full day of content related to fibre deployment and regulations.
Also on Tuesday, 20 September, domain name practitioners will have an opportunity to hear updates on the .ZA domain name space from ZADNA, and on the .dotcity and .africa projects from ZACR. The afternoon includes a registrar compliance workshop for companies interested in becoming registrars for South African domains. For those interested in secure domains, a half-day DNSSEC workshop takes place on Thursday, 22 September.
iWeek marks its 15th year by returning to Johannesburg and hosting an estimated 300 ICT industry professionals at the Wanderers Club from 19 to 23 September 2016. Attendance at iWeek remains free to registered delegates. Remember to pre-register by visiting http://www.iweek.org.za/
